Wire Weld by 3fD

11 October 2004

3form Design's Wire Weld process joins plastic parts reliably and easily.

The Wire Weld process has been developed by 3form Design to join plastic parts reliably and easily.

The process involves heating the plastic using an electrically resistive wire. By a controlled combination of heat and pressure within a compact welding unit, the two components are fused together at the press of a button. Mouldings are supplied with the wire concealed within the profile of the component, allowing assembly at any point on the production line.

3form Design managing partner Austen Miller says: “We have developed a reliable method of joining plastic in a way which does not alter the cosmetic appearance of the product, is waterproof, and is dimensionally repeatable.”
