Chris Miller wins Award for 'Service Above Self'

9 April 2012

Chris Miller recognised for his epic 1700 mile trip "Ben Nevis and Back.", sponsored by 3form Design

In April 2012, Chris Miller became the overall winner in the 2012 Basingstoke & Deane Rotary Club Service Above Self Awards.

Chris was nominated in the category ‘using a talent to benefit others’ in respect of his cycling challenge called ‘Ben Nevis and Back’ raising funds for the Whitchurch Youth Centre Trust. In each category there were 3 finalists; Chris won his category and then went on to be the overall winner for 2012.

The award was presented by the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Dame Mary Fagan, and was collected on behalf of Chris by his sister Lianne.

In October last year, Chris took on a solo sponsored challenge to cycle to Ben Nevis, climbed to the top, and then cycled back.

3form Design donated the bike - a Ridgeback Voyage 2011. This is a top-spec touring bike with a low centre of gravity giving great stability and handling, even when fully loaded. With no support team, the weight of the kit was substantial!

This expedition raised a staggering £10,000!

Chris is presently in Belize volunteering with Blue Ventures on one of their marine conservation projects.
