night-light.jpgMany design projects are simply stylised improvements on known technology. This project, however, required the know how for an idea to be discovered first.

Clicked into a ceiling socket and controlled by the existing light switch, the idea for this product was to provide “intelligent” lighting to a nursery.

Working with mains power, and only when demanded, this little device has to make split second decisions based on information received from its environmental sensors. By developing the electronic know how we were able to establish the specifications for the brief.

The styling was only possible once the components were known. The design reflects the need to house large components but also keep the lowest profile possible to the ceiling.

The design required the standard lighting cap to be recessed in the unit; something that the typical production equipment can’t contend with. Notably, this was not left as a production issue but investigated by us at first sketch to ensure concept validity. As we were also responsible for the eventual production pilot build we designed the custom jig in line with the design requirements. With a turnkey design and build service we have avoided these jigs and bespoke production arrangements becoming last minute critical paths.
